I was very impressed with the presentation. The box, covers, trees exuded quality, care and love from the get go. Then, the quality and craftsmanship of the shoes and even the laces ! I am still crazily enough on my first pair of laces and I wear these to work ! The leather and construction are solid and to this day the shoe looks great. I have been an airline pilot for 20 years. Until I found I found Carets, I had enormous difficulties finding comfort in a required hard black leather shoe that is required of me under my uniform guide lines. The normal swelling that occurs with flying and sitting would cause nagging discomfort to the point of distraction (not good for pilots). However, Carets completely eliminated this discomfort. The shoes eliminate painful pressure points caused by years of abuse with traditional tapered shoes. Carets are so comfortable for me, that I often tell people even when I come home from a 12 hour day of work, I don't feel the need to take them off !! When can you say that about a dressier shoe ? I am also, an avid barefoot shoe technology guy so this concept fits great for me. I wear natural foot gears correct toes all day in these shoes as well. Last but not least, great customer service-patient, accommodating, caring, professional and competent. Excellent communication with newsletters. Exciting to watch a small company grow and prosper !
Carets are great shoes for both the office and more casual settings. Extremely comfortable and easy wearing.
Hands down the best pair of minimalist dress shoes on the market. Super comfortable out of the box and they even come with shoe trees, a very nice touch. I own both colors so far and will purchase future iterations.
I love these shoes. I first bought a pair in black last year, and very recently bought a pair in oxblood. They are incredibly handsome, and very comfortable.
I bought black cap toes v.3 several years ago and really liked them. They still look good. Between then and now I bought a pair of Allen Edmonds cap toes but just didn’t feel comfortable in them even though I bought them in 3E. I just bought a pair of oxblood v.4 cap toes AND a pair of black v.4 cap toes. The design updates make them look much better. I look forward to rotating them for years to come. One major thing that sets Carets apart from other shoe companies is the customer support and the warranty. It’s great to be able to communicate with the company founder if you have questions.
At left is a typical dress shoe, same size and same Wide width. You can see that it is still 1 or 2 cm longer than ours. Most sleeker dress shoes have a fair amount of unoccupied space in the front. We took advantage of that and used it to give you a wide toebox without looking like it. Dress shoes get even longer if we start looking at chisel-toe and pointy-toe styles. But even though these conventional dress shoes are longer, you still feel cramped because of the heel lift and the fact that their shoes are widest at the ball of the foot. Ours are widest at the toes, as a foot naturally is.
Regarding groundfeel, Carets' outsole is 4mm thick, with another 4mm of leather and cork between that and your feet. The polyurethane we use for the outsole was selected for durability, which is more important than groundfeel in a shoe like this. The 2-part (polyurethane + leather/cork) design allows for the shoes to be resoled like good dress shoes and unlike most minimalist shoes.
